Italian actress Monica Bellucci is lined up to play SONIA GANDHI, the powerful Italian-born leader of India's Congress party.

The screen beauty was presented the script at France's Cannes Film Festival last week (Ends28MAY06) by producer SUNANDA MURLI MANOHAR, and agreed to the role on the spot.

Manohar says, "Her confirmation finally puts a seal on the deal. She is excited about the prospect of playing Sonia Gandhi."
