Mena Suvari is fronting a new anti-smoking campaign - after her aunt died of a smoking-related illness.

The 'American Beauty' star will appear in adverts for US organization Circle of Friends, which encourages women to quit cigarettes.

A source revealed: "Mena smoked as a teenager, but eventually kicked the habit. Her aunt recently died as a result of smoking-related illness and this prompted her to become a more active campaigner."

The stunning actress recently admitted she feels obliged to use her fame to promote good causes.

She said: "One of the things you learn being in the public eye is that you have the ability to raise awareness about serious issues and really help people."
