Drew Barrymore, Fabrizio Moretti call it quits 2007-01-11
Hollywood relationships seem to be doomed from the get-go. While the MTV curse has afflicted couple like Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey as well as Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler, even long-time Hollywood couples like Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe can't seem to keep it together. Now, actress Drew Barrymore and The Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti have become the most recently Hollywood couple to call it quits.
Reports have surfaced that the 31-year-old Curious George star has ended her relationship with The Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti, 26. Us Weekly quoted a source close to Drew Barrymore, who told the magazine, "Drew said they needed time off." From the other side of the relationship, one of Moretti's friends told Us Weekly that, "Fab is now living back in his old apartment." With the news, the relationship Barrymore and Moretti have enjoyed since April 2002 has come to an end.
While their relationship may have had its rocky points, Courtney Love, a friend of Drew Barrymore, told Us Weekly that their relationship appeared to work on the surface. "Drew has always had a taste for subculture." But while Courtney Love says the relationship worked on the surface, underlying tensions between the couple have previously made headlines. When Fabrizio Moretti's fellow Strokes bandmate Julian Casablancas wed in February 2005, Drew Barrymore's absence was noted by the media with interest. Months after the wedding no-show, Drew Barrymore and Fabrizio Moretti were engaged in a rather public argument in Santa Monica, California. Us Weekly talked to a friend of Barrymore who said, "she broke up with him twice before this."
Though there hasn't yet been a public statement regarding the break-up, another Barrymore insider claims the couple have split because of their clashing personalities. "he’s younger, and she’s more worldly. He doesn't like the Hollywood stuff. He doesn't get her friends." However, the source also says that just because the couple have split up doesn't mean their relationship is over. "This is exactly what happened last time they took a break."
Ironically, in the upcoming February edition of Harper's Bazaar Magazine, Drew Barrymore couldn't seem to lavish enough praise on boyfriend Moretti. Monsters and Critics quoted from the Harper's Bazaar interview, where the Charlie's Angels star gushed, "Right now I'm in a phase of, 'I'm not even your girlfriend. I'm your best friend who is madly in love with you.'" The interview continued, "The longest I've ever been with someone was like two to three years, so I'm in uncharted waters. Right now I'm into championing him as a human being." Neither Drew Barrymore nor Fabrizio Moretti have released a statement regarding the split, nor have their representatives.
Drew Barrymore is one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood, turning out films like the classic E.T.: the Extra-Terrestrial, Bad Girls, Mad Love, Batman Forever, The Wedding Singer, Scream, Home Fries, Donnie Darko, 50 First Dates and both Charlie's Angels films. Barrymore has been married twice in the past: once to a Welsh bartender and once to actor Tom Green. Fabrizio Moretti, the Brazilian drummer of The Strokes, has never been married.
