Angelina Jolie 'feels more' for Maddox and Zahara 2007-01-09
Angelina Jolie admitted to Elle Magazine in the newest issue that she has "less inclination" for her newborn, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, than the two children she adopted, Maddox and Zahara. She told the magazine, "I think I feel so much more for Madd and Zee because they're survivors, they came through so much. Shiloh seemed so privileged from the moment she was born. I have less inclination to feel for her."
The comments will appear in February's Elle Magazine. The actress, who cares for her three children with superstar Brad Pitt and currently appears in The Good Shepherd with Matt Damon, goes on, "I met my other kids when they were 6 months old, they came with a personality. A newborn really is this...Yes, a blob! But now she's starting to have a personality...I'm conscious that I have to make sure I don't ignore her needs, just because I think the others are more vulnerable."
The possibly controversial comments from Angelina Jolie also comes on the heels of controversial words dropped about Madonna's recent adoption in a French magazine, in which the star said "Madonna knew the situation in Malawi, where he was born. It’s a country where there is no real legal framework for adoption. Personally, I prefer to stay on the right side of the law."
The Associated Press reports that Jolie was surprised by how vicious the public attacks were when Madonna adopted an African child, but did suggest that the singer took a risk. Jolie and Brad Pitt have three children - Maddox is from Cambodia, Zahara from Ethiopia, and Shiloh was born to the couple in May. Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie have adopted a one year-old boy named David Banda, who joins their two children, Lourdes and Rocco.
The risks that Jolie talks about with Madonna's adoption stem from the reports that the Malawi government cut corners to fast-track the process. A November court ruling made it so a coalition of rights groups can monitor the process.
On March 10, 2002, Angelina Jolie adopted her first child, Maddox Chivan Jolie, when he was 7 months old. Jolie met the child in a Cambodian orphanage while filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Then, on July 5, 2005, People magazine reported that Angelina Jolie was attempting to adopt an Ethiopian girl that had been orphaned when her mother died from AIDS. After a woman claiming to be the baby's mother was proven not to be, Jolie eventually gained custody of Zahara Marley Jolie. On January 19, 2006, both of Angelina Jolie's babies were also adopted by Brad Pitt, giving the children the surname. In 2006, Angelina Jolie gave birth to the couple's first child together, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, in the African country of Namibia.
